‘Yeva’ Screened in Armenia

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – T he feature film ‘Yeva,’ written and directed by Iranian-Armenian filmmaker Anahid Abad, 55, is currently showing in cinemas in Armenia.

The film is about a young woman named Yeva who escapes her influential in-laws with her daughter Nareh, after her husband’s tragic death and takes refuge in one of the villages in the disputed enclave of Karabakh, Armenia.

Yeva is in the movie halls from Sunday in Armenia. Funded by Iranian cinema producer Taqi Aliqolizadeh, the film is a joint 2017 production between the two countries.

It participated in the 41st edition of the Montreal World Film Festival (August 24-September 4), Cinema Ticket (cinematicket.org) reported.

Iran’s Farabi Cinema Foundation represents worldwide rights for the movie and it is to be distributed in Lebanon as well, Aligholizadeh said.

“I found my characters in a remote place such as Karabakh. The main character in the film, Yeva, becomes the phoenix of her own life. She confronts the problems, threats and her own weaknesses,” Abad said.

A 94-minute drama, ‘Yeva’ is set in Armenia with an Armenian cast, namely Narina Grigorian, Shant Hovhanisian, Sergay Tovmasian, Vrejh Kasoni, Marjan Avadisyan, Roz Avadisova, Digran Davtian, Nanor Patrosian, Avalian Adamian and Marat Davtian.

Born to an Armenian family in 1969 in Tehran, Anahid Abad holds a BA in film directing. During her career she has served as first assistant director and planner in many film projects in professional Iranian cinema.

She has worked with prominent directors such as Alireza Davood-Nejad, Abolfazl Jalili, Rasoul Sadrameli, Ahmad-Reza Darvish, Varuzh Karim-Masihi and Bahram Beizai among others.
