Appraisal of American, European Writing Styles

TEHRAN, (IRANART)- Iranian translator Soheil Sommi has recently brought out a collection of selected stories that provide a comparative analysis of American and European writing styles.

An enthusiast of American literature and novels, Sommi has translated a large number of literary works by American writers such as John Barth, 86, Neale Donald Walsch, 73, Don Nardo, 70, John Updike (1932-2009) and Canadian Margaret Atwood, 77.

Now Sommi, 46, has compared some of Updike’s stories with that of Flann O’Brien, a pen name for Irish novelist, playwright and satirist Brian O’Nolan (1911-1966). The latter represents European novel writing style in Sommi’s work, ILNA reported.

The collection also has a “twilight zone” between the writing styles of the two continents. It is represented by some stories of Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977) whose first nine novels were in Russian, before he began writing English prose which brought him international prominence.

Sommi’s collection includes 9 stories. The details of the publishing house releasing the work, is not yet known.
