Azeri Tar Master Guliyev to Perform at Vahdat

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – A cclaimed Azeri musician and tar virtuoso Ramiz Guliyev, 70 will perform an orchestra of classical Azeri compositions in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall, December 21-2.

Guliyev is invited by ‘Culture and Art’ Symphony Orchestra affiliated to the University of Applied Science and Technology.

All pieces of the repertoire are selected by Guliyev. Iranian composers Shahram Tavakkoli, 47, and Ali Akbar Qorbani, 46, will conduct the orchestra. Qorbani is a member of the National Orchestra’s technical council, Mehr News Agency reported.

Vocalist of the event is Rashid Vatandoust, 72. He was solo singer at Tehran Symphony Orchestra for 20 years and at Iran’s National Orchestra for 10 years.

“Master Guliyev’s visit to Iran will be an auspicious occasion, in particular for enthusiasts of Azeri music. Years ago along with (composer and conductor) Farhad Fakhreddini we collaborated with him at Iran’s National Orchestra,” Qorbani said.

Guliyev’s last performance in Iran was in 2014 at Vahdat Hall. The event featured a number of folk pieces from the neighboring Republic of Azerbaijan.

In 1974, Guliyev won the first prize at the Transcaucasian Competition of National Instrument Players and the 5th All-Union Competition in Moscow from among 1200 participants. Since then he is great demand as a soloist tar player.

Guliyev has given concerts in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, the US, Canada, Denmark, France, England, Poland, Russia, Turkey, India and Tunis.

He collaborated with many famous conductors such as D. Klayner from Germany, G. Mustu from Moldova, N. Nekrasov, A. Mikhailov and V. Andropov from Russia, V. Hagnazarov from Uzbekistan, and R. Abdullayev, R. Melik Aslanov and Y. Adigezalov from his own country .

 Guliyev has dedicated much of his time and energy to pedagogical works at the Baku Music Academy since 1962.
