Iranian Embassy in Japan to perfom music online ahead of Yalda

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – A specialized meeting and workshop on introducing traditional Iranian music will be held virtually to mark the winter solstice, known in Iran as Yalda, on Saturday

Organized by the Iranian Embassy in Japan, Japanese Persian language learners are to recite poems by the great Iranian poet and mystic Hafez during the program.

They also are scheduled to play traditional music with the dulcimer.

Iran’s Cultural Center in Japan has been holding a special program to mark Yalda with Iranians during the last three years in the presence of Japanese and Iranian enthusiasts.

This year, due to the spread of the coronavirus, an online program has been planned to celebrate Yalda.

In this program, Kazune Iwasaki, a prominent Japanese artist who plays Persian music artfully, will give a speech and then perform on the dulcimer.

Shab-e Yalda, the last night of autumn, which is the longest night of the year, has gained a special place among Iranians who enjoy spending this long night together with family, gathering around the elders who narrate stories to them.
