Different Adaptation of Lorca’s Yerma

TEHRAN.(Iranart) - An adaptation of Spanish tragedy “Yerma” written by playwright Federico García Lorca is on stage at Molavi Theater Hall in Tehran.

The play “Yermagh” is loosely based on Lorca’s stunning work, that showcases a new take on themes of isolation, passion and jealousy.

Unusual setting and performance of the adaptation makes it a distinctive and interesting show. The troupe of 14 actors wears big masks in shape of cow’s head. The title also refers to the sound of cow’s moo (magh in Persian) which indicates the animalistic features of human responses.

Directed and produced by Maryam Mohammadi and written by Mahyar Ahmadi, the play will run until June 15.
