Koohestani’s ‘Hearing’ to Go on Stage in Sweden

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – T he theatrical work “Hearing” written and directed by Amir-Reza Koohestani will be staged at the Ingmar Bergman International Theater Festival of Sweden.

Named after internationally acclaimed Swedish film director (1918-2007) Ingmar Bergman, the festival is held at Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm, August 25-September 2.

According to ISNA, the play will go on stage on August 27 and 28.

A production of Mehr Theater Group, the 70-minute play is about two university students in a girl’s dormitory in Tehran who are summoned by the dorm security staff after it is reported that a man’s voice and laughter was heard in their room on New Year eve. Nobody has seen the man. The play deals with issues of guilt, remorse, freedom and control as its main themes.

Elham Korda, Mahin Sadri, Mona Ahmadi and Ainaz Azarhoush are in the cast.

Koohestani, 39, studied directing and cinematography in 1995 and continued his education in the University of Manchester majoring in theater studies. He has directed 15 plus plays and shown his plays in many countries.

Besides two stagings in Iran in 2015 and 2016, Hearing has gone on stage in France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Greece.
