Play features Steve Jobs’ questions on technology, modernity

-TEHRAN.(Iranart) – A play on stage at Tehran’s Neauphle-le-Château Theater is posing the questions once posed by Apple Inc. co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs about people’s relation with technology and modernity.

Speaking to the Persian service of MNA on Saturday about his play, “Steve Jobs”, director Mehran Ranjbar said, “Steve Jobs was a genius who also had some dark and negative moments in his life, and this play shows those moments.”

“Before his death, Jobs posed a question that where is the modernity and technology by which we wanted to save the world,” he added.

Ranjbar who also stars as Jobs in the play said that the play doesn’t intend to deny technology and noted, “However, the play wants to say that achieving greatness is also important and that this is not the case that science always saves people.”

He expressed concerns over the dysfunctionality of a newly emerging current in Iranian theater.

“Today, our audience is really confused, because our theater has engaged in capitalism and it is suffering from weak comedies,” Ranjbar said.

He said that the new current aims to accustom people to seeing weak comedies and leads them to overlook any thought-provoking play.
