Odissi for the first time in Iran

TEHRAN.(Iranart) -A research based performance and illustration talk as an introduction of the ODISSI style entitled 'Trans-formation' was staged in the last days of September at the Mehregan Theatre House

A research based performance and illustration talk as an introduction of the ODISSI style - one of the eight Indian classical dance forms – entitled 'Trans-formation' was staged in the last days of September by Abtin Javid at the Mehregan Theatre House, Tehran, Iran.

India has more than a thousand types of folk theatrical performances, of which only eight have reached the classical level by academic standards. Filters such as historical background, teaching methods, costumes and accessories, music and performance characteristics specific to each style are the main criteria for classifying a dance style in India. Within Kathakali, Mohinatam, Bharatanatyam, Shatrya, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and Kathak, Abtin Javid is the only Iranian Odissi disciple of Guru Ramli Ibrahim, following the late Debaprasad Das style. Abtin has recently introduced this dance genre for the first time in Iran, in collaboration with Mehregan Theatre, Homa Jahani and Zahra Rouzbeh as the directors of this event, Abtin Javid introduced the Odissi line by line, and at the end, he talked and responded to the audiences in a Q & A section.

From a structural point of view, Odissi can revitalize Iranian dance styles and transform arts such as Shabih Khani (a traditional simulation dance and play form which developed Taziye Khani).

Trans-Formation, an Odissi introductory performance took place on September 19, 2021 at the Mehregan Theatre.
