TEHRAN.(Iranart) –The art practiced in Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage being held online, December 14-19.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh in a message stressed the fact that the art of miniature painting has been the manifestation of the elegant and gentle culture of Iran.

“The mesmerizing art of miniature painting has been the manifestation of elegant & gentle culture of Iran & this part of the world,” Khatibzadeh wrote in his Twitter account on Thursday.

“Iranian maestros have created miraculously detailed pieces,” he added.

“Joyful seeing it registered at @UNESCO as #IntangibleHeritage by M. Farshchian,” he noted.

Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Ali-Asghar Mounesan in a message also congratulated the Iranian nation and artists on the registration of miniature as Iran’s 15th global intangible cultural heritage.

Congratulations to the people of Iran on the global registration of the art of miniature as the 15th intangible world cultural heritage of the country, he said, wishing the country a happy future.

Noting that the art of miniature in Iran has a history of several thousand years and Iranians have long had a deep connection with the art and the artists, he said that miniature has depicted the joys, sorrows, and different situations of the Iranian people throughout history. Miniaturists enjoy a high and valuable status before the Iranian people.

A miniature is an art form of the medieval period that realistically portrayed events while adhering to the traditional rules of Islamic art.

Mahmoud Farshchian is a master of Persian painting and miniatures. He was born in the city of Isfahan, Iran, and it was here where he learned art, painting, and sculpting. His paintings have been hosted by several museums and exhibitions worldwide.
