Iran to launch museum for sculptor Tanavoli

TEHRAN –(Iranart)- Nassirolmolk Cultural Complex in Shiraz, Iran’s southwestern province of Fars, will launch a museum for Iran’s prominent sculptor Parviz Tanavoli, deputy of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Ministry said.

Mohammad-Hassan Talebian made the remarks in an unveiling ceremony and exhibition of Iran’s nomadic and rural handicrafts in Carpet Museum of Iran in Tehran.

He said Tanavoli collected the handicrafts in more than 60 years, while the artist was living among the tribal people and was inspired by them.

Tanavoli gifted 1,408 pieces of Iranian handicrafts to the ministry, of which 198 are at present housed in Carpet Museum of Iran, Talebian said, adding that nine of the pieces will remain in the museum and the rest will be transferred to Shiraz.

Director-General of Museums and Historical Movable Properties Mohammadreza Kargar said that Tanavoli’s donation reminds that Iran has a valuable culture and civilization, and each person in Iranian tribes is an artist.

They produced skilled handicrafts without academic literacy, he added.
