TEHRAN.(Iranart) –These days, it is only the sensationalized that captures people’s attention and hearts!

As students of Aydin Aghdashloo, old and young, we have been silent witnesses to charged emotional developments in recent months. The collective demand for respecting the rights of all peoples, especially women, is a sine qua non, essential and just. These rights have been publicly proclaimed over the past few decades with more vigour, but in their evolutionary course, the flames of accumulated anger and frustrations, rooted in centuries of inequality, violence, and injustice, can blur the line between right and wrong, social justice and baseless accusations, legal rights and criminality, news and gossip, truth and destruction. Experience shows that amid this pandemonium and sensationalism, decisions are made without recourse to truth, and emotional reactions trump reason.

As those who attended courses offered by Aydin Aghdashloo over many decades in a safe, professional, and constructive environment based on solidarity and growth, we have found him an inspiring artist, a caring teacher, a master, a companion, a confidant, a friend, a meticulous expert, and a critical thinker. More than anything, he has taught us how to live. A mere page won’t encompass all of our stories; we have each glimpsed at facets of Aydin Aghdashloo’s multilayered character, each layer rich with meaning and values, and deserving a thousand words to describe.

Until today, we kept silent not because we had nothing to say about the accusations leveled at Aydin Aghdashloo. But because we know the profound weight of words and we don’t panic in the face of what we have heard. Our aim was to avoid putting out fire with gasoline, to let the smear campaign pursued for the past several years against Aydin Aghdashloo wither, and let the light of day come through. Our understanding and personal experiences have nothing to do with the conditioned toxic atmosphere currently present, which attempts to blemish individual and collective achievements of some of the artists of this land. We are all part of this society, and we don’t accept slanderous discourses used as pretext for seeking justice, because we don’t want to witness the repetition of history.

We can only wish that the just demands of women and men of this land can find the path to truth.
