Further step to register Dalahoo in western Iran as world town of tanbur

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – The registration of Dalahoo, Kermanshah Province, as a national tanbur town , is a great honor for the western part of the country, said the town’s governor Karam Mohammadi.

He told IRNA that efforts are underway to pave the way for the world registration of the town.

“We are one step away from achieving that goal,” he added.

The official said that the town is regarded as one of the birthplaces of tanbur, a musical instrument in Iran.

He said that the people of Dalahoo use the tanbur in their religious rituals; therefore, this art has a special sanctity among the people of the region.

Mohammadi said that 35 large and 75 small tanbur-making workshops are active in the town, which is considered to be a great potential for the region.

Mohammadi said that 183 craftsmen are active in the field of tanbur-making in the .

The town of Dalahoo was registered as a national tanbur town on Monday, and its plaque was awarded to the provincial authorities by the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Ali-Asghar Munesan.

The tanbur is the oldest and most genuine Iranian musical instrument and, nowadays, nearly half of the people around the world are acquainted with this ancient Iranian instrument and are using it in different parts of the world under different names.

With its beautiful, heavenly sound, this instrument is used in many countries, especially China, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), such as Azerbaijan and Armenia.
