38th FIff announces plans for hybrid event

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – The president of the 38th Fajr International Film Festival (FIff) announced, “Our first plan for the festival is to hold the market section virtually, using a world-renowned platform, and to hold the film section physically, with a limited number of guests.

Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpour added that since the festival was not held last year, part of the work done previously was postponed to this year, and part of the work started as a new activity, IRNA reported.

This major film festival canceled the 38th edition over the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival’s president said in May, 2020.

The festival was scheduled to be held in April 2020, however, amid growing concerns over the coronavirus during March 2020, the organizers postponed it to a later time in June, which was also canceled.

The most important part was the selection of films, which started in June and July 2020. The only thing that matters is the exact status of the festival, which is not clear, as for all cinematic events, amid the coronavirus outbreak, he added.

He continued, “We have observed almost all cinematic events after the outbreak of the coronavirus, some were not held, or were held in a hybrid mode.” The latest example was the Berlin International Film Festival, which was held virtually on its own website.

Asgarpour noted that Iran is a great country for first-time filmmakers, adding that almost 40 percent of films which are made annually are by first-time directors.
