Tehran Int’l Book Fair to be held in-person in 2022

The next edition of the Tehran International Book Fair will take place in an in-person format in 2022, according to the head of the Iranian Book and Literature Home.

Iranart: The annual event – held in April – was called off this year and in 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country, IRNA reported.

Last year’s exhibition was replaced by an online event this past January, which hosted more than 1,700 domestic publishers, showcasing over 100,000 Iranian titles.

A number of 180 international publishing companies also offered more than 20,000 titles at the six-day exhibit, which also included numerous cultural webinars.

“Preparations are underway to hold the event in an in-person format,” Ali Ramezani told IRNA on Monday, adding, “The hygiene protocols and the vaccination status of the visitors and participants will be decided after negotiations with the country’s coronavirus taskforce.”

Speaking of the Iranian Book and Literature Home’s programs for Book Week, which started on Monday, Ramezani said multiple events will take place separately, in association with the provincial Departments of Culture and Islamic Guidance, in a hybrid format across the country.

The final day of Book Week will be dedicated to the relationship between children and books, Ramezani added.

In the Iranian calendar, November 15 marks Book and Book-Reading Day.
