Tehran Quintet to Play Piazzolla

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – M usic band ‘Tehran Quintet’ will perform compositions by Argentine composer, arranger and bandoneon player Astor Piazzolla, 71, at Roudaki Hall in Tehran.

The event is planned for December 26-27, at 8 pm. Compositions are arranged for piano, bandoneon, violin, contrabass and electric guitar - a combination recommended by Piazzolla himself.

The band is now rehearsing selected pieces. Shahrzad Jafari plays the piano and Mehrdad Mehdi is on bandoneon, a particular type of concertina popular in Argentina, Uruguay and Lithuania, Honaronline reported.

Other band members are Farzan Falakdehi on electric guitar, Alireza Chehreqani on violin and Mohammadreza Jabbar on contrabass.

Piazzolla’s opus, comprising 1,000 works, a characteristic career and an undoubtedly Argentinean flavor, continues to influence some of the best musicians in the world including Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer, 70; French-American cellist Yo-Yo-Ma, 62; American string band Kronos Quartet; pianists Emanuel Ax, 68, from the US and Arthur Moreira Lima, 77, from Brazil; American jazz guitarist Al Di Meola, 63; and Brazilian duo Assad Brothers among others.
