Honest and Hardworking Retiree

TEHRAN.(Iranart) - T he play, “Āmiz Qalamdun” (Scribe in Persian), written by the veteran playwright Akbar Radi is on stage at Iranshahr Theater.

Directed by Hadi Marzban, the play’s name sarcastically means a person devoted to writing. It is a story of a retired man Mr. Shokouhi (his first name is not mentioned in the story), who has dedicated his life to hard work, honesty and simplicity. His wife, Shokat, challenges the dull life when she decides to travel abroad.

“The play is symbolic of the life of many artists who live and die in obscurity,” ILNA quoted Marzban as saying.

The veteran actor Iraj Rad, Farzaneh Kaboli, Azar Kharazmi, Noushin Tabrizi and Samira Karimi perform the play.

Akbar Radi (1939-2007) has been compared with Russian playwright Anton Chekhov and the founder of modernism in theater Henrik Ibsen.

After opening on June 14, the play will be performed for a month. Iranshahr Theater is located at Artists Park, Iranshahr St., Karimkhan Ave.
