Photo Sale at No. 6 Gallery

TEHRAN, (IRANART)- Over 70 photographers are present at the third photo sale of the No. 6 Gallery in Tehran which began on Friday.

Curated by photographers Zarvan Rouhbakhshan and Hamed Dehqan, the three-day event aims at reducing the price tags of the exhibits in a bid to encourage collectors as well as the public to purchase artwork and add them to their collection or adorn their homes.

“Lowering and slashing the price of artworks is not customary. However, artworks are usually presented at auctions at high prices, which is irrational and leads to widening the gap between art and the public. Therefore, reducing this gap by creating affordability to the general visitors and not just collectors, can help bring art to people’s homes,” ISNA quoted Dehqan as saying.

“On the other hand, in most art auctions in Iran, photos and the art of photography, except in few special cases, receives very little attention from collectors while this type of art can have a wider reach,” the young curator added.

Dehqan, 27, holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from University of Sari. His photos have been displayed at several exhibitions in Tehran and northern cities of Sari and Babol. He has curated four group exhibitions and held workshops on the subject of photography as well.

Rouhbakhshan, 38, is a curator, artist, photographer, art critic and teacher. He holds a master’s degree in advanced art studies from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran.

He has shown his photographs and artworks in more than 20 festivals and group exhibitions internationally and has held six solo exhibitions. As a curator he has directed several exhibitions and workshops.

No. 6 Gallery is exclusively dedicated to photography and seeks to reflect the newest and most original achievements of photographers.

Through stringent and meticulous selection of artworks and publication of a book for every exhibition, the gallery attempts to exhibit lasting collections of the past and contemporary Iranian photography, honoring the older generation and supporting the new.

The sale continues until February 26 at the gallery located at No 2, 20th Alley, Mirza-e-Shirazi St.
