‘Domus Eyes on Iran’ highlights Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

TEHRAN –(Iranart)-The video series of the Italian Embassy, ‘Domus Eyes on Iran,’ turns the spotlight on the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMoCA) and its extraordinary collection.

The unique story of the TMoCA and its collection are at the center stage of the new episode of the video-series, ‘Domus Eyes on Iran,’ by the title ‘The Tehran’s Contemporary Art Museum. The Anti-Monument’. The series is produced by the Italian Embassy in Iran in cooperation with Domus, the internationally acclaimed Italian magazine on design and architecture, according to a press release of the Italian Embassy in Tehran obtained by Iran Daily.

Designed in the 1970s by architect Kamran Diba, the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art was meant to represent a public institution devoted to highlighting the importance of Iranian contemporary art and the role of Iranian artists. Over the years, the Museum has gathered a remarkable number of Iranian and international masterpieces of modern and contemporary art, to the point that today it owns the largest collection of Western modern and contemporary art outside of Europe and North America.

The episode, launched in an event hosted by the Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Perrone on Thursday, also introduces the Italian masterpieces in the collection of the TMoCA, such as the stunning ‘Green Curtain’ by Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the most intriguing pieces of the ‘Horse and Rider’ sculpture series by Marino Marini, and the iconic bronze sculptures by Umberto Boccioni (from the ‘Unique Forms of Continuity in Space’ series) and Arnaldo Pomodoro (from ‘the Sphere’ series).

The ‘Domus Eyes on Iran’ series, now at its sixth episode, takes inspiration from stories published by Domus magazine from the 1940s until the present, focusing on the features of each work and exploring any subsequent evolution to the original story.

The video documentary, ‘The Tehran’s Contemporary Art Museum. The Anti-Monument,’ and the previous episodes of the series (‘Qajar Tehran. The Glass & Ceramics Museum and the Italian Residence,’ ‘Orsi Khaneh. A Window on Iran’s Unique Blend of History & Modernity,’ ‘Architecture Meets Nature by Sara Kalantary & Reza Sayadian,’ ‘Gaetano Pesce and the Tehran National Library,’ ‘Villa for an Older Brother by Alireza Taghaboni’) are all available on the social media platforms of the Italian Embassy in Tehran (YouTube, Instagram, Twitter).
