  • 5th Celebration of Iranian Still Photographers

    Omid Salehi has been selected as Iran’s Still Photographer of the Year for his collaboration on Narges Abyar's When the Moon Was Full. He received his award during the 5th edition of the Celebration of Iranian Still Photographers held at Rayzan International Conference Center in Tehran on Thursday. The celebration, which is held by the Iranian Society of Still Photographers, also honored Director Sirus Alvand and veteran film photographer Hossein Maleki. The event annually honors artists showcasing a special outlook on cinema through the window of still photography.

    Golestan Gallery has opened its doors to the 27th edition of the 100 Works, 100 Artists Exhibition until 21 August. A collection of artworks from 228 artists from different generations are lining up at the exhibit.

  • 78th birthday bash for Masoud Kimiai

    A special program was held in the Cinema Museum of Iran to honor and celebrate the 78th birthday of veteran movie director Masoud Kimiai. Fans and artists attended the event on Wednesday, which also included screening a restored version of Kimiai's Snake Fang (1990). It was entered into the 41st Berlin International Film Festival where it won an Honorable Mention.

  • The Fly Playing on Stage in City Theater of Tehran

    Directed by Tohid Masoumi, new play The Fly is on stage in the Sayeh Hall of Tehran’s City Theater until 9 August. Based on The Toth Family, a play by Hungarian writer István Örkény, The Fly is set in Hungary during World War II, and is about the visit of an army Major to the rural house of the Tut family.

  • Shirin Gallery Hosts Shima Faridani Painting Exhibition

    Shima Faridani’s new painting exhibition is underway in the Shirin Gallery. Dubbed Duet with the Chromatic Partitor, the show runs until 7 August.

    The Farmanfarma Gallery is playing host to a painting exhibition by Iman Lali. Dubbed Testament, the painting exhibition runs until 9 August.

  • Homay Performs Hallaj Opera at Niavaran Complex

    Composer, vocalist, and performer Parvaz Homay performed the Hallaj Opera at the Niavaran Complex in northern Tehran. The opera is story of Mansur al-Hallaj (858-922 AD) a Persian mystic, poet and teacher of Sufism. He is better known for his saying “I am the Truth” (Ana ‘l-Haqq in Arabic), which many saw as a claim to divinity, while others interpreted it as an instance of mystical annihilation of the ego which allows God to speak through the individual. Fearing Hallaj’s thoughts and ideas and the growing number of his followers, Al-Muqtadir Caliph of Baghdad executed him after an extended period of incarceration on religious and political charges. Parvaz Homay, 39, also known by his birth name Saeed Jafarzadeh, is the founder of Mastan Ensemble. He specializes in Persian classical music.

  • 7th Shahr Int'l Film Festival Awards Ceremony

    The 7th edition of Shahr International Film Festival, as Iran's most important cinematic event of urban management, came to a close on 22 July at Tehran's Vahdat Hall, after 5 days showing films, animation movies and documentaries, across the world. Tehran City Council members and Mayor Pirouz Hanachi attended the event, which is organized each year by the Urban Image Institute, the Artistic and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality.
