  • Mary Poppins Musical on Stage in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall

    A musical adaptation of Australian-English writer Pamela Lyndon Travers’ series Mary Poppins is now on stage in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall. Directed by Ahmad Soleimani, the musical is based on the Persian translation of the eight-volume series of children’s books by Ahmad Kolivandi. The book tells the story of Mary Poppins who is charged with the responsibility of taking care of the five Banks children. Walt Disney produced Mary Poppins musical fantasy film based on the series in 1964.

    The Tehran Symphony Orchestra gave a concert under the baton of guest conductor, the renowned Iranian-Armenian maestro Loris Tjeknavorian at Vahdat Hall on November 27, 28 and 29, with the participation of the Iran's Rudaki Foundation's choir led by Razmik Ohanian.

  • Rat Race Playing on Stage at Tehran City Theater

    The play Rat Race, directed by Abbas Ghaffari, is now on stage at the Sayeh Hall of Tehran’s City Theater. Written by Mohammad Charmshir, Rat Race is about Lena, an Iranian Immigrant who is seeking asylum in France but grapples with nightmares. The cast includes Ayeh Kianpour, Soroush Taheri, Morteza Agha Hosseini, Zohreh Rostami, and Mohammad Reza Solati.

  • See Paintings by Shohreh Mehran at Etemad Gallery

    The Etemad 2 Gallery in Tehran is hosting a painting exhibition by Shohreh Mehran. Titled Wind, the show runs until 19 November. A statement by artist reads: “We witness things around us every day. We pass by them and barely notice them because they have become commonplace. Nevertheless, they are unique because they belong to the here and now; they belong to this particular geography and cannot be found anywhere else. I have fixated upon such views for years. In the current series I wanted to bring motion into my work, which I have done using the concept of wind. The figures are still, but wind flowing through the fabrics changes their shape, creating the sensation of movement; or at least this is what I intended it to do. I select my subjects based on instinct, and the reason I am drawn to the folds and creases of fabrics and their light and shadow, is a question I have no answer to.”
