Directed by Amin Sadi, a new stage adaptation of English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley’s The Cenci is currently on stage at Tehran’s Neauphle-le-Chateau Theater until 15 October. The Cenci, A Tragedy, in Five Acts is a verse drama in five acts written in the summer of 1819, and inspired by a real Italian family, the House of Cenci. Renowned French dramatist and theatre director Antonin Artaud staged his adaptation Les Censi in 1935, but his extensive use of surrealism in the performance meant that the production was shown only 17 times before closing.
